Search my Heart

Matthew 12:34-35

For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him,

and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

I don’t know about you but it’s usually a stressful situation that reveals what is in my heart. My response to a loved one or to another person can come out harsh or insensitive. I have come to view those times as opportunities to stop and ask myself and the Lord why I am responding this way. What is going on in my heart, my life that is causing these feelings to rise to the surface.

Exhaustion seems to be often a cause but what the Lord reveals  is that yes I am exhausted but the heart issue is  pride. I am guilty of believing my world is dependent  on me or oftentimes I say yes to too many things because it feels good to be asked or considered for an opportunity.

What I am grateful for is that The Lord never leaves me with just the bad news of my heart condition; he also offers me the remedy. Many times  it is to rest in him, to offer him my load and to know that he cares for me and I am not on my own. And to remember the world is under his control.

Maybe for you what is revealed about your heart is that you are filled with anxiety, or that you  are easily offended, maybe you have some negative narratives on replay in your mind and you find yourself speaking from a place of hurt or offense. Today I want us to take some time with the Lord and ask as David asked in Psalm 139: 23-24

Search me, God, and know my heart;

    test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

    and lead me in the way everlasting.

You can grab your journal or use the notes app on your phone and just write out what the Lord is revealing to you.

  1. What a good post. I love that God gives us the remedy instead of leaving us with a tired heart. He really does give us rest. It is so important to give God your burdens. It is so important to ask God to search you and show you the parts of your heart where there is some sin.

  2. This was such an inspiring and good post. Exaustion is a struggle and I’m so glad you wrote this post. I struggle with trying to be calm in my responses to others when I’m stressed as well. It is such good news that God gives us the remedy for our tough stuff.
