3rd Grade Homeschool Curriculum We Love for Our Faith-Filled, Busy Home

3rd grade curriculum

Choosing the right 3rd grade homeschool curriculum can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re managing a large family . In this post, I’m sharing the exact curriculum choices we’re using for third grade this year, along with why we picked them and how they’re working in our real-life, full-house setting. I hope this post gives you practical ideas and encouragement.

Math: My son began using Teaching Textbooks last school year and will continue this year. This has been such a great online course that takes care of it all. My son watches the lecture, does a lesson, test are included, and he gets a grade for all of it. As a mom of multiple ages I appreciate a curriculum that my son can do on his own. As I am working with someone else he can get his math lesson done. Any problems that he might struggle with he can move on and save those questions for the time I am free to help him.

It has been nice to not have to teach a lesson and instead help him as he needs it. Teaching textbooks is a 12 month subscription and when ever I need to I can pause it. This means I can have my son practice some math facts that he may need some extra practice in.

Science: Science is a family subject but I also like to find videos my son enjoys. He likes Science Max on Youtube and we watch some science documentaries from the Good and the Beautiful on Youtube as well. We haven’t watched every episode on either channel so as in any case it’s important that you as mom review anything your children are going to watch.

I also use these CDs for the kids to listen from Apologia science. I have the older edition but I am sharing a link to the new one because I can not find it. I have also found this one and others in the series on Hoopla which is an audio book borrowing app from my library.

Language Arts: For language arts we have used The Good and The Beautiful in the past and then took a break. We are revisiting it again this school year. We take this curriculum slowly. My son does 2-3 lessons a week and reads to me 3-4x a week. He also uses the handwriting from The Good and The Beautiful.

Choosing a 3rd grade homeschool curriculum that fits your large family’s unique needs doesn’t have to be stressful. Remember, it’s not about perfection — it’s about creating a learning environment grounded in faith, flexibility, and grace. I hope sharing our top picks inspires you to find resources that work for your family and helps you feel confident as you lead your children through this year.
